Teaching Plan


1. Curriculum
SMA Negeri 2 Padang uses the K-13 curriculum. The focus of this curriculum is to give emphasis on the inclusion of English as one of the school subject in Indonesia. But somehow, on my observation teachers there are not literate enough to communicate English. As a teacher, how could you produce a quality students if your lecturer are not good in his/her specific area.

              b.      Unlocking of Difficulties
                     1. Alberti Bass – a special type of broken chord accompaniment where the chord is played in this order: lowest note – highest note – middle note – highest note then repeats the pattern to create a smooth, sustained, flowing sound.
                       2. Classical Era – the period from 1750-1820 called the “age of reason”.
                       3. Crescendo – gradually becoming louder.
                       4. Diminuendo – gradually becoming softer
                       5. Opera buffa – opera in Italy that is full of fun and frivolity.

The classical era, also called “Age of Reason” is the period from 1750-1820.
So, class, why classical era is being called age of reason? Anyone?
Sir, because I think, classical era is the era which the industry of music developed! Then it is the definitely the reason of what we are having right now!

In the middle of the 18th century, Europe began to move toward a new style in architecture, literature, and the arts and it was known as Classicism.

There’s some important historical events class that happened during this era to be list down in your notes first the French Revolution, followed   by Napoleonic Wars, American Declaration of Independence in 1776, and the American Revolution!

Who can tell the class what was the French Revolution is all about?
Sir, it was a period of far-reaching social and political upheaval in France and its colonies that lasted from 1789 until 1797. It was partially carried forward by Napoleon during the later expansion of the French empire.
Wow! Next Napoleonic Wars? Who have any idea about this?
Sir, sir! The Napoleonic wars were a series of major conflicts pitting the French Empire and its allies led by Napoleon 1st, against a fluctuating array of European powers formed into curious coalitions, financed and usually led by the United Kingdom.
No doubt class, that all of you here is a historian. Koddos to your History Teacher. Okay last, about the Americans! Please tell us about the Independence and Revolution of America. Anyone?
The American revolution was a colonial revolt that took place between 1765 and 1783. The American patriots in the 13 colonies won Independence from Great Britain becoming the United State of America.
Class please be aware that classical denotes conformity with the principles and characteristics of ancient greek and roman literature and art which were formal, elegant, simple, freed, and dignified! And how it affects the classical music?
Sir, the same characteristics may also describe the melodies of classical music.
Harmony and texture is homophonic in general. The dynamics of loud and soft was clearly shown through the extensive use of crescendo and diminuendo.

Please take note that during classical era a style of broken chord accompaniment also called Alberti Bass was practiced.

During this era, we have three great composers! But the first one is FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN. Are you class familiar with Haydn?

Sir I think because he is the one who contribute big to developed the music industry during that era. Since that he is the oldest among the three, then he was the first composer who let music be his life.

Music of the classical period is usually associated with nobility. It was called a what?
An age of reason!
During that time most of the members of the nobility would financially the musicians. Music was played in the courts which make the music of the classical era more familiar to the nobility than the lower classes.
But sir, nowadays we experienced it anytime by the masses because of the dawn of the radio, and TV.
Again class, why Classical Era is being called the Age of Reason? Anyone.
Sir, because I think, classical era is the era which the industry of music developed! Then it is the reason definitely the reason of what we are having right now!

Each group will create an original story and turn into a song by adapting a tune or music of your choice of the classical era. Any question?

You can create or improvise an instrumental or rhythmic accompaniment for your song.

   1. Choice of music (must be classical and appropriate) – 30%
     2. Originality (content of lyrics) – 30%
     3. Voice quality (pitch, projection) – 40%

Direction: Get ¼ sheet of pad paper and answer the following questions.
Test I – Enumeration. Enumerate the following:

1-3. Give three example that influence by the classicism.
4-7. The four important historical events occurred in classical era.
8-10. Give at least three characteristic of Ancient Greek and Roman Literature and Art.

V.               ASSIGNMENT

                  Research the Autobiography of Franz Joseph Haydn and give at least three example of his composition. Wright it down in a ½ crosswise sheet of pad paper.
